Three Virginia School Administrators Indicted for Allegedly Failing to Report Suspected Child Abuse, 29News Reports

Oct. 9, 2026 · 29News (WVIR)

One former and two current Albemarle County Public Schools employees have been indicted on criminal charges of failing to report child abuse, 29News (WVIR) reported. The station identified the roles of those charged as the district's deputy chief human resources officer, its assistant school division counsel and Title IX coordinator, and a former elementary school principal.

According to 29News, Albemarle County police said allegations were presented to a grand jury on October 5 following a months-long investigation, and that the grand jury returned three counts against each person. The station reported that each defendant faces two Class 1 misdemeanor counts for allegedly knowingly and intentionally failing to report information and evidence of aggravated sexual battery, plus a third count for allegedly failing to make a report required under Virginia law, which designates school employees as mandatory reporters.

Other local outlets, including C-VILLE Weekly, reported that the charges stem from a broader investigation that began with the arrest of a former elementary school social and emotional learning staff member on child sex abuse charges, and that police said detectives were told some school staff may hesitate to report suspected abuse out of fear of workplace discipline.

The indictments are allegations and have not been resolved in court. notadragqueen.org does not publish the names of those charged.
