Ottawa Catholic School Board Teacher Charged With Sexual Offences Involving a Student, CTV News Reports
A teacher employed by the Ottawa Catholic School Board has been arrested and charged in connection with alleged sexual offences involving a student, CTV News Ottawa reported this week. According to the outlet, the Ottawa Police Service said the allegations date back to 2021 and 2022, and that the 52-year-old teacher faces charges including sexual assault, sexual interference, invitation to sexual touching, invitation to exposure, forcible confinement, intimidation by threats of violence, assault with a weapon and assault.
CTV reported that the school board declined to identify which school or schools the teacher worked at, citing the active police investigation, but said the teacher was pulled from the classroom as soon as police notified the board of the charges. A board spokesperson told the outlet that the division is cooperating with investigators and will offer support to members of the school community, saying in a statement that student safety and well-being are its priority.
According to CTV, Ottawa police said investigators are concerned that other students may have been victimized and asked anyone with information to contact the service's sexual assault and child abuse unit. No further details about the investigation were released, the outlet reported. The charges have not been tested in court.
