Indiana High School Volleyball Coach Charged With 26 Counts of Child Exploitation After Snapchat Tip
The varsity girls volleyball coach at South Central High School in LaPorte County, Indiana, has been charged with 26 counts of child exploitation over the alleged possession of child sexual abuse material, Fox59 reported. According to the station, the LaPorte County Sheriff's Office opened a roughly two-month investigation in July after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a tip from Snapchat in May.
Fox59 reported that the 46-year-old coach was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals in a rural area of the county. The Northwest Indiana Times reported the sheriff's office announced the charges on Tuesday following the investigation into the cybertip.
In a statement quoted by Fox59, South Central Schools said administrators were notified of the arrest by the sheriff's office the same afternoon, that the coach was immediately placed on unpaid administrative leave, and that he has been formally trespassed from district property. The district said an existing assistant coach who previously led the program will serve as interim head coach, according to the statement. The charges are allegations that have not been proven in court.
