Former Scout Leader in England Given 20-Year Sentence for Child Sexual Abuse, ITV News Reports

A former scout leader has been handed a 20-year prison sentence for sexual offenses against children in Somerset, in southwest England, ITV News reported on October 5. The outlet described the defendant as a onetime scouting volunteer whose role placed him in regular contact with young people.

Avon and Somerset Police published its own announcement of the sentencing the same weekend, describing the outcome as a 20-year term following the volunteer's conviction for sexual abuse against children.

The case is the latest in a long line of prosecutions involving adults who held trusted volunteer positions with youth organizations. Full details of the charges and the court proceedings are in ITV News's original report.
