Ex-N.C. State Sports Medicine Director Arrested in Florida on 32 Charges Tied to 14 Alleged Victims
North Carolina State University's former director of sports medicine was arrested Wednesday night in Marion County, Florida, on out-of-state fugitive warrants, the Associated Press reported in coverage carried by CBS News. According to the AP, a Wake County grand jury indicted him on Sept. 14 on nine felony counts of sexual contact under the pretext of medical treatment and 23 misdemeanor counts of sexual battery.
Wake County District Attorney Lorrin Freeman confirmed the indictment to the AP and said the charges involve 14 people who were interviewed by investigators during a multiyear investigation, the news service reported. The AP noted that the criminal case follows years of civil litigation in which more than 30 former Wolfpack athletes have described allegations that the trainer sexually abused them while presenting the conduct as treatment.
The AP reported that the Marion County Sheriff's Office listed the 32 charges without additional detail, and that he was being held in the county jail as of Thursday. The accused has not been convicted; the indictment reflects allegations that prosecutors must still prove. Readers can find the full reporting at the link below.
